In 2011 the Western Cape Education Department asked Dr. Kleynscheldt to start the new “secondary” school in Melkbosstrand. At this stage, the development of the school premises had already begun. By November 2011, many aspects of the building still needed attention and it was clear that it would not be ready by January 2012. Arrangements could be made with Bloubergrant High School to use a few of their classrooms and bus transport had to be arranged from Melkbosstrand High School to Bloubergrant and back.

Die Laerskool Van Riebeeckstrand het ‘n kantoor, rekenaar en telefoonlyn beskikbaar gestel wat selfs vakansies en naweke gebruik kon word. Ouers kon nou met die nuwe hoërskool kontak maak. ‘n Vergadering is met ouers gereël en feitlik alle ouers was daar! Rob Cranna en Natalie Herron was die eerste ouers wat as lede van die beheerliggaam verkies is en meneer Cranna is as voorsitter verkies. Ander lede was drie amptenare van die Onderwysdepartement en Dr. Kleynscheldt as stigtershoof.

This School Governing Body had many tasks to attend to such as finalising language, religious and other policies ad deciding on the colours and the uniform for the learners. We opened a bank account for the school and we started negotiating for better sports facilities with various role players. Many applications were received for teacher posts and Miss M. Crause, E. Benjamin, J. Cleland and Mr. J. Bantom were appointed. The interim SGB appointed Mr D. Ross as the first headmaster of the school. This five member staff was called “The Big Five” and with less than a hundred kids in the school and not being able to have class in their own school building, we often referred to “Our humble beginnings”.

Die skooluniform kon nie betyds vir die eerste kwartaal gereed wees nie en die beheerliggaam het besluit om die sporthempie wat ontwerp en gereed was te gebruik saam met netjiese jannas (jeans) en tekkies as aanvanklike skooldrag. Die WKOD-direkteur wat die leerders en personeel op die eerste dag verwelkom het se woorde was: “Kinders, julle lyk pragtig!” Almal het besef – hierdie skool gaan nog ‘n spogskool word.
