In 2011, the Western Cape Education Department requested Dr Kleynscheldt to establish the new secondary school in Melkbosstrand. At that stage, development of the school premises had already commenced. By November 2011, many aspects of the building still required attention and it became clear that the school would not be ready by January 2012. Arrangements were therefore made with Bloubergrant High School to use several of their classrooms and bus transport had to be organised between Melkbosstrand and Bloubergrant High School.

Die Laerskool Van Riebeeckstrand het ’n kantoor, rekenaar en telefoonlyn beskikbaar gestel wat selfs gedurende vakansies en naweke gebruik kon word. Ouers kon nou met die nuwe hoërskool kontak maak. ’n Vergadering is met ouers gereël en feitlik alle ouers was teenwoordig. Rob Cranna en Natalie Herron was die eerste ouers wat as lede van die beheerliggaam verkies is en Mnr. Cranna is as voorsitter verkies. Ander lede het bestaan uit drie amptenare van die Onderwysdepartement en Dr Kleynscheldt as stigtershoof.

This School Governing Body had many tasks to attend to such as finalising the language, religious and other school policies as well as deciding on the school colours and uniform for the learners. A bank account was opened for the school and negotiations commenced with various role players regarding improved sports facilities. Many applications were received for teaching posts and Ms M. Crause, Ms E. Benjamin, Ms J. Cleland and Mr J. Bantom were appointed. The interim SGB appointed Mr D. Ross as the first headmaster of the school. This five-member staff complement became known as “The Big Five”.  With fewer than a hundred learners at the school and without access to their own school building, the phrase “Our humble beginnings” was often used.

Die skooluniform kon nie betyds vir die eerste kwartaal gereed wees nie en die beheerliggaam het besluit om die sporthempie, wat reeds ontwerp en beskikbaar was, saam met netjiese jeans en tekkies as voorlopige skooldrag te gebruik. Die WKOD-direkteur wat die leerders en personeel op die eerste skooldag verwelkom het se woorde was: “Kinders, julle lyk pragtig!” Almal het besef — hierdie skool gaan nog ’n spogskool word!
